- ↑ Source:Stocking, Charles H. W. History and Genealogy of the Knowltons of England and America seems spectacularly wrong about parts of this branch of the Knowltons. It says Elias is the son of Elias Knowlton and Elizabeth Jennings, and he may be, but no marriage record can be found. Many of Elias's own children are erroneously attributed to his father, the father's residence is wrong, the father's death is wrong, etc., as pointed out in Source:Knowlton, George Henry. Errata and Addenda to Dr. Stocking's History and Genealogy of the Knowltons of England and America.
The father Elias is attributed to Daniel Knowlton and Abigail Almy, married in 1743. His birthdate (not found in records) is supposed to be 1744, but the records show Daniel and Abigail baptizing three children by 1747 making 1749 about the earliest they could have had a son Elias, which then makes him under age when he his first child is born. So this source has essentially been ignored. Searches for deeds and probates has not been fruitful (no probate for Daniel, for the elder Elias, his wife Elizabeth is granted administration in 1784 but otherwise the file (Middlesex 13462) only contains an inventory, with no list of heirs to be found).
