Biography

"He was a farmer and lived from boyhood in Washington Twp, Stark county, OH. Although quite a cripple, caused by rheumatism in early life, he performed a great amount of hard labor, and secured for himself quite a comfortable home, where all his children were born. True, the home did not contain many of the modern conveniences, but, what was more essential here was peace and contentment. He was a devoted and consistent member of the Free-will Baptist's all the time the society held an organization in the neighborhood. Afterward he and his family, as the children grew up, united with the Evangelical and worshiped at the Salem church. While loyal to the church of his choice, he was charitable toward other churches and loved to worship with them. He had decided opinions as to right and wrong and endeavored to square his life by the golden rule. He was an ideal neighbor, never so occupied with his own affairs, that he could not lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved his family devotedly. He continued to live at the old home after his wife's death, with his daughter, Ellen, until her marriage, and afterward his son John, living with him. He died at Ellen's home in Alliance where he had been staying for some time."S2
