I have some information on the Frederick Co., MD Farthings that I came across while searching my VA Farthing's roots. Maryland Marriages 1778-1800 lists John Foist m. Eleanor Farthing 7/7/1798 Frederick Co., Marriage Licence's; and John Viest m. Eleanor Farthing 7/8/1798 at First German Evangelical Reformed Church,Frederick. Also in the same records a James Farthing m. Margaret Ott 1/6/1801, same church record as above. Probably Eleanors brother? Another entry in Frederick Co., marriages lists John Lashorn m. Rebeckah Farthing on 5/6/1786. Also I came across James Farthing's voting in the presidential election of 1796(Nov. 9-12)Frederick Co., MD. as supporting the Dem-Rep candidate. In St. Mary's Co., MD Dec., 1767, under the title "State of His Lordships Manor of Woolsey" I find James Farthing lease of 91 1/2 acres. Also Mary Farthing and Robert Hurtle as lease holders. In the Federal Census of 1790 a James Farthing, Frederick Co., one free white male 16 and older, five free white males under 16, four free white females and head of families. I hope this is of some help if you don't already have this information. I descend from Richard C. Farthing 1745-1810 of Pittsylvania Co., VA. Contact me if you need clarification. Earl Farthing
