746. Effie - born 1871; died 1960; married Charles Vance. There were no children. After the death of her mother, Mary Hansbrough Mays, Effie Mays was raised in the household of Enoch Hansbrough, her uncle.

from a Quincy Newspaper -- Golden Wedding Camp Point, Ill., Dec. 30. (1954) -- Mr. And Mrs. Charles Vance will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday Afternoon with open house in their home from 2 to 4. All friends are invited. They were married Jan. 4, 1905, in the home of Mrs. Vance's uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Hansbrough, with whom she made her home. The Rev. J. S. Dingle performed the ceremony. The vances went to housekeeping on the farm of Mr. Vance's father, Mose Vance, which is located a few miles north of Camp Point. they lived there until 10 years ago when they moved to their present home in Camp Point. Mrs. Vance is the former Effie Mays, daughter of the late Jim Mays of Quincy. Her mother died when she was quite young and she then made her home with her uncle. She attended LaGrange college and taught in rural schools. Mr. Vance has been a member of the Masonic lodge for 60 yhears. Mr. and Mrs. Vance have been members of the Christian church in Camp Point for a number of years. They are both active and able to look after their home and care for a large garden.
