MARR:http://www.genealogybank.com/gbnk/newspapers/doc/ 1900-09-10; Trenton Evening Times MARRIAGE JUST ANNOUNCED Miss Claudia Lenox and Edward Tunis, Both Formerly of This City Were Wedded

The marriage of Miss Claudia Lenox, formelry of this city, but now of Bayonne, and Edward Tunis, also of this city, which took place some six months ago, has just been announced.
It seems that it was a case of love at first sight with young Tunis and Miss Lenox, who met at a social function given in this city. At the time Miss Lenox was living in Bayonne and was visiting relatives here. Later Mr. Tunis visited Miss Lenox at her home and when he proposed she accepted him, and they went forthwith to a clergyman in Egg Harbor and were made man and wife.
Mr. Tunis, who was but 19 years of age at the time of his marriage, did not have a situation that remunerated him sufficiently to set up an establishment of his own, so he waited until recently when he secured a good paying position in New York before he told his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Tunis are well known to a large circle of friends in Trenton.

MARR:http://imgcache.newsbank.com/ 1900-09-10; Jersey Journal, p. 4 THEY KEPT IT QUIET. Bayonne Girl Married Trenton Lad Six Months Ago MISS LENOX'S ROMANCE. She Did Not Tell Het Parents Until Yesterday-Went Away on a Day's Excursion and Married Edward Tunis-Case of Love at First Sight.

Trenton, Sept. 10.-Edward Tunis is too young to have his name published in the City Directory, even as "bds. 145 Prospect Street." but he is not too young to have a wife. Notwithstanding the fact that Edward is not yet nineteen years of age he has been a benedict for six months.
There is a little bit of picturesque romance connected with young Tunis' matrimonial venture. In 1808, while attending a social function in this city he met Miss Claudia Lenox, whose home was in Bayonne, and who was visiting friends here.
It was a case of love at first sight, and Mr. Tunis, after visiting her several times at her home in Bayonne, suggested that their lives be made one.
Accordingly the young people came to one of those understandings that make things look like what the poets sing about, and headstrong as youth, they went and were married. The ceremony was performed by a Methodist minister in Egg Harbor City.
Immediately after the nuptial knot was tied Mrs. Tunis returned to her parents' home in Bayonne, as though she had been away on a summer day's excursion, and the husband came to his home in this city.
Shortly thereafter young Tunis' father was appointed chief of the census enumorators in New Brunwsick, and he at once made his son his chief clerk. The position was a desirable one, but the compensation was not regarded as sufficient to warrant the results which he feared might follow the announcement of his marriage. So the alliance was kep secret.
A few weeks ago the youthful husband completed his task with the census department at New Brunswick, and returned to his home in this city. He at once proceded to obtain another job, and having secured a good positoin in New YOrk he decided that it was high time to annonce his marriage. Neither his nor his wife's family had the slightest suspicion that son and daughter were man and wife until it was told them yesterday.

Tunis of the Fourth Census District, was married to Miss Claudia Lenox of the same city some time ago, the facts in the case having but recently developed.
