San Francisco, Sep 14, 1850
Mrs. Synnott,
Dear Madam, The melancholy duty has devolved upon me, to inform you of the death of one, loved by us all, your Husband is no more. he died on Friday afternoon, 6th inst. at the Marine Hospital whither he was carried after he was taken sick. I was up and saw him the Sunday previous to his death. he was then more comfortable, was well attended and I supposed doing well. but alas it was ordered otherwise by Him who giveth and taketh away. The money due him will be sent you, and his clothes will also be taken care of. if I should live to get back home to Damariscotta I should be glad to see you or any of your friends.
I remain very Respectfully Yours
Daniel F Hutchings
First officer of Ship Rose Standish
