Biography of Edward Robinson, Sr.

Edward Robinson, son of John and Tabitha Robinson is believed to be born about 1730 in Goochland County Virginia. His marriage to Judith Southall was about 1752, believed to be in Goochland, Virgina.

Edward's father, John Robinson, gave Edward 200 acres of land in 1763[1]. It was part of a 400 acre patent to John in 1738, bounded by William Bradshaw and William Tabor. His father died in 1768 and his will gave Edward one shilling sterling, saying that he had received his share of the estate[2].

During the War of the American Revolution, Edward served his country by the selling of beef to the Army of the Revolution. He is listed in the Daughter of American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution. His service is recorded in the Virginia Publick Claims, Vol 1 pps 294[3][5].

He died intestate in 1782 in Cumberland County, Virginia when an inventory of his estate was presented at court by his son Stephen[4]. The settlement of his estate was begun in 1782 with his son Stephen, appointed administrator. The estate was settled 25 August 1794[4]. The appraisal of the estate was valued at £1269-16-0[6].

Edward married Judith____(was it Southhall or Archer?) Her will was dated 12 August 1806 and recorded in Will Bk. 3, p. 369, Cumberland Co., VA. The children mentioned in her will were Stephen, John, Jones, Field, Jonas and Mary Weatherford.

Several sons of Edward and Judith moved to Tennessee about 1797 where a son, Cumberland Robinson, was born. For an extensive history on Robinson descendants, see the website: Robinson Family
