Believed, by this researcher, to be the son of Robert ELSE, shoemaker/cordwainer, of Boughton Malherbe, Kent and Mary TOLHURST, possibly the daughter of one John TOLHURST and Sarah (surname not known) Edward ELSE, otherwise Edward TOLHURST, aged 21 years, appears on the Criminal Register for Kent (1839), having been tried and sentenced for 4 months imprisonment for larceny. Date of trial 3rd January, 1839
