Sir Edward Bray I was born by 1492, the second son of John Bray of Eaton Bray, Beds. He was educated at Middle Temple where he was admitted in 1509. His first wife was Elizabeth, daughter and co-hieress of Henry Lovell of Harting, Sussex but they divorced with no issue. His second wife whom he married in 1518 was Beatrix, daughter of Ralph Shirley of Wiston, Sussex and widow of Edward Elrington of London and Udimore, Sussex. By May 1539 she must have been deceased as he married Jane, daughter of Sir Matthew Browne of Betchworth, Surrey and widow of Sir Francis Poynings. Knt.
