DEATH OF MRS. BERT BISHOP
Funeral services were held at the Kingston Federated Church last Friday
afternoon at two o'clock for Mrs. Bert Bishop, who passed away Thanksgiving
morning, after a lingering illness. The service was conducted by Rev. G.A.
Puckett with burial in the Kingston Cemetery. Just a little more than a half century ago, in the spring time, May 25, 1877, Edith Paul was born to Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Paul on a farm in the Cottonwood community, southwest of Kingston. She spent the early childhood years there on the farm, moving to Kingston, with her parents when about seven years of age. Here in Kingston she attended the public schools and grew to young womanhood. In the year of 1899, on Sept 17, she was united in marriage to Bert Bishop, also of Kingston. The year following their marriage both Mr. and Mrs. Bishop united with the Kingston Presbyterian Church where they have continued to hold membership through out these thirty- five years. With the exception of one year in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and sixteen years in St. Joseph Mr. and Mrs. Bishop have spent their lives in this community. For the past six years they have operated the Commercial Hotel here. Mrs. Bishop had many friends and had a wide acquaintance. With her cheerfull smile and kindly words she became well known in her work and her life. For a long time she has not felt like being her old self of cheerfulness and the smile has been forced through pain and weariness. Several months ago she realized that life for her was short, that the end of the pilgrimage was not far away, so she said she was ready and willing to go. In the gray dawn of Thanksgiving morning, November 29, 1934, after 57 years, 6 months and four days along life's pathway, she went down into the valley of shadows and crossed over the river of death. She leaves to mourn her passing the husband, the father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Lela Heiser and Marvel Paul, as well as a host of relatives and freinds. Two sisters, Pauline and Verna preceded her in death many years ago.
