"On the Petition for Naturalization, it states, that Edna Bastin was born in Paola, Kansas, on 01 Oct. 1881.

1920 Minnesota Census: Could read and write. b. Kansas. Could speak English. Occupation: none. Age of 38. Married. 3 children. Residing in Cass Lake Village, Mn, USA. Emigrated in 1909."

She went to Alberta, Canada around 1900 and returned to MN in 1909.

My Grandmother (Edith Edna Bastin) and Grandfather had two daughters in Canada and then moved back to Minnesota. My Grandfather had a special relationship with his mother. When he and his wife got to Minnesota Great Grandmother was giving Grandma a very hard go of it. People said the only time they saw my Grandfather angry was when he told his mother that she was not welcome in his house if she did not respect and be nice to his wife.

Grandmother had cancer when my father was young. I think she had a brest removed and once showed her children a large scar and cavity. She lived twenty years after the surgery, quite an accomplishment in the 30"s.

Grandmather inherited wheat land in Kansas. It provided enough income so my grandfather could maintain a small farm in Minnesota. After he died the offspring sold it for a substantial price. I remember a story that her brother also inherited land but lost money on futures markets.
