  2.   The coverage of this Ebenezer in Source:Vinton, John Adams. Richardson Memorial, p. 225, smells like minnestrone: all the leftovers Vinton has nothing else to do with, are combined into one person, and probably mostly fiction.

First, Vinton says this Ebenezer "probably" married in Reading in 1777 Sarah Parker and d. Beverly "about" 1 Jan 1832 aged 80. An Ebenezer did marry a Sarah Parker in Reading and they proceeded to record several children in Reading: Sally in 1780, Lucy in 1782, Ebenezer in 1783, Jonathan in 1784, Molly in 1792, Henry in 1795. Then an Essex county probate is opened for Ebenezer Richardson on 24 Feb 1832, which may be the reason for the "about" in the death date, but it is in Lynn, not Beverly. The probate mentions sons Ebenezer, Jonathan and Henry so looks like it might be the same Ebenezer (it also mentions "there being no widow", and Peter Tucker - presumably the Peter Tucker who married in Lynn to Lois Richardson). Lynn VRs say this Ebenezer died 9 Jan 1832 aged 85, not 80. This Ebenezer would be born around 1747, perhaps significantly different enough from 1751 to put Vinton's identification of Sarah Parker's husband in doubt.

Second, Vinton says the father of this Ebenezer m. 21 Mar 1776 Sarah Richardson. What is found in published VRs is an intention dated 2 Mar 1776, but since the father has been shown to have a wife named Mary, and a widow named Mary, this marriage does not appear to the father. It might be the son. But no subsequent record of this couple is found.

Third, on the prior page, Vinton identifies a Sarah Richardson, d/o Thomas Richardson and Mehitable ---, who m. (1) 1776 Ebenezer Richardson, and then m. (2) 1801 Nahum Goodard. This Sarah has an unknown birth date, but apparently is mentioned in the will of her father, dated and proved 1759, so was born before that. She would possibly be a good match for the son. However, she is unlikely to be the "Sally Richardson of Shrewsbury" who married Nahum Goddard of Petersham, since Nahum was born 1776, and Nahum and his wife named their first son "James Richardson Goddard" (in Vermont where they moved), and had other sons at a time when this Sarah would have been in her forties or older. Sally Goddard, wife of Nahum, d. Rochester Vt 1848, aged 75, so born 1773. Clearly not the daughter of Thomas Richardson.

It seems possible that Ebenezer Jr. married 1776 Sarah, d/o Thomas Richardson. But Vinton has camouflaged it pretty well.
