  2. Source:Benedict, William Addison. History of the Town of Sutton, Massachusetts, from 1704 to 1876, p. 651, says, "GOULD According to Dea. Leland, Joseph and Ebenezer were brothers, and came from Salem." The only Ebenezer found in Salem records is the son of Joseph Gould and Bethiah Raye, b. 1696. His brother Joseph Gould m. Sarah Marsh, not Sarah Twist, as indicated for the brother Joseph. That and his age in 1741 when our Ebenezer first married suggests this is not the correct family.

The marriage of Joseph to Sarah Twiss in Salem in 1735, and of Ebenezer in Sutton in 1741 suggests both were born by 1720. The Joseph Gould and Sarah Marsh mentioned above do not appear to have any recorded children, but their marriage in Salem 25 Jan 1710-11 would certainly allow them to have two sons of appropriate age for those marriages.
