    "5 Ebenezer Austin3, Richard2 1 b. Aug. 27, 1662, Charlestown; d. Jan. 16, 1723. … Ebenezer Austin was a sadler. He held many public offices in his native community. In 1700, he was chosen a surveyor of highways and was a selectman of Charlestown in 1703, 1704, 1707, and 1714. … In 1720, he was chosen a tythingman. In 1720, 1721, and in 1722 he was elected one of the town's representatives to the General Court, and while there in active role in the promotion of friendly relationship with the Indians. The town records of Charlestown refer to him frequently as 'Lieutenant Austin'. During his lifetime he acquired considerable property and owned at least one slave, 'Caesar', who died in 1721. The estate of Ebenezer Austin, appraised at £1,747, was administered by his wife. It included a warehouse and wharf, which were willed to his son Ebenezer, Jr."
