    Notes for Dr. Ebenener "Eben" Nunn ALLEN:
    According to an article from Early-day Medical Doctors of McAlester and Pittsburg County (compiled by Mary Dell), Dr. Eben N. Allen was born in Farmdale, Franklin Co., Kentucky, on 6 May 1855. He married Miss Myra Sidney Austin, a daughter of Colonel W. L. Austin of Kansas City, on 10 Jun 1884. His parents were Richard N. and Jeanette (Campbell) Allen, natives of Baltimore and Perrysburg NY respectively. After leaving Kentucky Military Institute, he farmed in Bates Co., Missouri, and for a time was telegraphic operator. He began studying medicine under his brother Dr. William H. Allen at Rich Hill MO and attended lectures at the Louisville Medical College in 1878. On 2 March 1880, he graduated from the Kansas City Medical School. Between 1880 and 1882, he practiced medicine in Austin, Cass Co., MO. In 1882 he moved to Coolidge KS. In 1885 he moved South McAlester, Indian Territory. From 1889 he was the Chief Surgeon for the Choctaw, Oklahoma & Gulf Railroad (became part of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific in 1904). He was also the local surgeon for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad.
