Earnest Garrett was a Federal Marshall. He slept with a gun under his pillow. He knew Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson. He didn't like to work, but he always had money. His obituary says that he was born in Dudleyville, Illinois. "Four years ago last April(April 1902) he and his wife moved from Illinois to North Dakota where they lived until one year ago last March when they moved to California and settled in Santa Paula." "His father, mother, one brother and two sisters, with a host of friends, live to mourn his loss."
