HOLMES, Earl C. Otsego, MI Passed away Sunday, January 5, 2003 in Kalamazoo . Mr. Holmes was born August 21, 1919 in Otsego Township to Frank and Nora (Aur and) Holmes and had been a lifelong resident of Otsego. Earl served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a member of the Disabled American Vetera ns. For 23 years he was employed with the City of Otsego, retiring in 1985. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and had made many windspinners. He also e njoyed reading Louis L'Amour novels and watching John Wayne movies. A special j oy was reminiscing about his childhood for his grandchildren. On November 13, 1 943 in Allegan he was married to the former Mable Kurtz, who survives. Also sur viving are 4 sons, Donald L. (Eileen) Holmes of Plainwell, and their children, Ryan (Jenny) Holmes, Michael (Sarah) Holmes and Wendy Holmes; Russell L. (Marsh a) Holmes of Irons, MI, and their children, Shelley (Curtis) Henschel and Becky (Jason) Quarry; Steve A. (Marie) Holmes of Plainwell, and their children, Kari Holmes and Chad Holmes; and Ken (Lindy) Holmes of Otsego, and their children J essi Holmes, Jami Holmes, and Justin Holmes; 3 great-grandchildren, Travis and Miranda Henschel, and Peyton Quarry; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Molly and Madi son; 2 brothers, Merle (Luella) Holmes of Otsego and Roy Holmes of Allegan; a s ister, Doris (Calvin) Moran of Otsego; a brother-in-law, Charles (Glenna) Kurtz of Allegan; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Winkel Funeral Home Otsego where service s will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, Rev. Gary S. Wales officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Memorial contributions may be ma de to the Trowbridge United Methodist Church Building Fund. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 1/6/2003.
