Obituary.

MR. DUNCAN GORDON McALPINE.

A very old and highly respected resident of Lansdowne, in the person of Mr. Duncan Gordon McAlplne passed away at his home at 8 o'clock on Thursday morning, at the age of 81 years. Born at Geelong (Victoria) the subject of this notice spent some of his boyhood days on a trading ship, on which his father was. He came to the Manning at the age of 19 and resided at Cundle Plains till 1896, being in the employ of the late Mr. Edward Blore. Here he married Miss Sarah Ann Drury (only daughter of the late Mr. Edward Drury). On leaving Cundle Plains he moved to Lansdowne. One brother is still living and resides on the Clarence. Surviving children are Mrs. E. L. MacKay (Lansdowne), Mrs. Stan Emerton (Jones' Island), Mrs. C. Barlin (Lansdowne), Mrs. G. Edmonds (Coopernook), Mrs. H. Emerton (Jones' Island), Mrs. Tolson (Lansdowne), and Mr. A. McAlpin (Bootawah). One son (Gordon) died at the age of 10 years. The funeral took place at Dawson cemetery on Friday last, the Rev. W. S. Beazley conducting the service.
