Beginning in 1968, Dorothy and Watcher "WHITE CREEK" corresponded regarding the various LOWER families in the USA. At the time we began working together, Dorothy only knew her ancestry back to TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, OHIO, which is as far back as this compiler had also traced his Lower roots at that time.

It was Dorothy who discovered the immigration data of DANIEL LOWER (1792-1876) who arrived in New York City, in 1837(data shows the LAUER spelling). Despite so many similarities in our mutual LOWER lines, no "blood line" has ever been found. Now it seems that it is unlikely that the lines connect by blood, although finally in 2014 at least one marriage link was found. That was in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, where there may be others.

In her responsibilites at the Library, Dorothy had contacts with other various Lower researchers, who we generally have not been able to link. Some of Dorothy's Lower lines have been traced to Wabash County, Indiana, where this researcher's Lower ancestors settled after migrating from Tuscarawas County, Ohio. It would be great if someone from the ACPL who knew Dorothy would edit this page, and provide more data about her career!
