Delaune, Maj. Donald Cecil, U.S. Army, retired He was a retired U.S. Army major and a veteran of World War II, having traveled with Gen. George S. Patton's Army throughout Africa. He was also a retired engineer for Exxon Chemical and worked in their offices in Baton Rouge, The Hague, Netherlands, and London. He died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at noon at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 86, a native of Poche Plantation in Napoleonville and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23. Visiting at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, celebrated by the Rev. M. Jeffery Bayhi. Interment in St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery, Napoleonville. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He is survived by his sister, Elaine T. Delaune; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friend of many years, Yvonne Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Marthe Triche Delaune; three sisters, Marjorie D. Kahn, Lois Martha Delaune and Madeline Delaune; a brother, Richard Delaune; and nephew, Richard Delaune Jr. Pallbearers will be Scott Lanoux, John Stewart, George and Rick Bayhi, Danny Nesbit and Eddie Wittmer. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering at LSU. He was honored for his outstanding philanthropy on behalf of the LSU Alumni Association and received the University Club Gold Award. He was awarded the LSU Foundation's President's Award for his longtime support of LSU. He was also a faithful supporter of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, his favorite charity. He was very active in the Camellia Society for many years, because he loved his camellias and spent many hours nurturing them. He loved dancing with Yvonne Jones. They belonged to the Big Timers Dance Club, where he provided the music for the Silver Strutters dance group, who entertained at a designated nursing home each Thursday. Every Tuesday they danced at BREC, and every Sunday at DeVille's Studio, where he used to take lessons. He was a member of Military Order of World Wars, American Legion Post 38 and the LSU Alumni Association. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Metanoia Youth Fund Inc., 749 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
