ADRIAN -- Donald James Abling, age 71, of Adrian, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Bixby Medical Center. He was born December 26, 1931, in Wellsville, Mich., to Augustus J. and Helen F. (Ganun) Abling. He graduated from Blissfield High School. On May 12, 1951, he married Ruth "Ileen" Kelley in Wellsville and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, earning the Korean Service Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Service Medal. Donald had been employed by Tecumseh Products for 45 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church. In addition to his wife, Ileen, he is survived by sons, David James Abling and his wife, Carole, of Barnhart, Missouri and Randy Abling and his wife, Doreen, of Hudson; two grandchildren, Amanda Abling and Karen Duckworth and her husband, Geoff, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 26, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with Dr. Edmund Burkey officiating. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Annis-Fint Post #1584. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Bible Church. Envelopes are available at the Anderson Funeral Home. References
