From "Historical and Biographical Annals of Columbia & Montour Counties, PA: David F. Fetterman was educated in the public schools of Centralia, PA. He worked in the coal breakers picking slate in mines as a boy. He later became door tender in the shafts at Mt. Carmel and Centralia, working in the mines for 4 years. He served as a carpenter's apprentice with his brother-in-law, Bradley Leacock, in Mt. Pleasant Twp, where he remained for 4 years. The following year he was employed by Harmon Mordon, a well-known contractor. In 1915, he had been employed for 8 years as a foreman of the repair department of the American Car and Foundry Co, Berwick under Evan B. Moore. He was a Democrat and served as judge of elections. He was a member of the Berwick Lodge, No 246, IOOF. His family attended Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, Berwick." References
