Memories of Darryl

He was the youngest of six. He has three sisters and two brothers. Darryl was married for a little while and from that marriage he had three children, one daughter and two sons.

Christmas 1962, two of his sisters received a doll cradle and doll buggy. We were all amazed that he could fit in them. Our mother had us watch Darryl and rock him very lightly in that cradle. She would allow us to place him in the buggy and stroll around inside the house. Mom stressed that she didn't trust how fast or rough we would be with him outdoors.

Mom would have us kids walk to church on Sunday mornings and she would join us during the worship hour. One day, Darryl was ill and she decided to let him sleep. Mom didn't think to wake up and let him know that Dad was home (sleeping). The look on our Mom's face to see Darryl, who was about 3 or 4 at the time, come strolling in and slid into the pew. He had gotten up and set out on his own--it was a mile to church. After service, a church member let Mom know that they had tried to get Darryl in their car; but he refused. He also mentioned to my Mom that he slowly driven behind him to make sure that Darryl got to church all right.

   Daryl Lee Church, 45, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away in October 2009 at his home. Funeral arrangements have been handled by Clark Family Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service.
