    Darius Marvin Sawyer, son of Darius and Alice Sawyer, was born in Lee Center township Feb. 20, 1851, passing to the beyond Dec. 27, 1927, at his home at 113 E. Fourth Street, Dixon, after suffering with Brights disease for the past ten years.
    On March 13, 1876 he was united in marriage to Euretta Angeline Leavens. To this union were born four children, two daughters and two sons, Ethel who died at the tender age of four years, Mrs. Mabel Miller, Wayne and Dale Sawyer, all living in Dixon.
    Mr. Sawyer was of a family of seven children. The early part of his life was spend in and around Lee Center, mostly farming. Later he took up carpenter work, following that occupation as long as he was able to work. He and his wife had traveled quite extensively over the United States, passing several winters in Florida and Oklahoma.
    He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, two sons and one daughter, six grand children and two great grandchildren, all of whom are living in Dixon with the exception of one grand daughter, Mrs. Jeanguenat who resides in Franklin Grove, one brother Rolland Sawyer and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Starts of Dixon and Mrs. Sarah Livingston of Coffeeville, Kan.
    Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon Dec. 29 from the home of his son Dale, Reverend Cleaver, pastor of the Christian church of Dixon officiating. Curtis Rice sang two selections accompanied by Miss Floto.
    The remains were laid to rest in the Woodside cemetery at Lee Center. The order of Elks had charge of the service at the grave. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Freeman Leavens of Sac City, Ia., Earl Leavens of LaSalle, Mrs. Josephine Wood, Mrs. Estelle Clark and Frank Sawyer of Lee Center, Mrs. Mattie Derr of West Brooklyn.

    Funeral of Darius Sawyer on Thursday
    The funeral of the late Darius M. Sawyer will be held from the home of his son, Dole Sawyer, 1421 Tenth Street, Thursday afternoon at 1:30. The remains will be taken to the Lee Center cemetery for interment, officers and members of the Dixon lodge of Elks having charge of the services at the grave.
    Darius Marvin Sawyer, son of Darius and Sophronia Parker Sawyer, was born in Lee Center township, February 20th, 1851 and all of his life was spent principally in Lee County. In 1917 diabetes developed and he was a constant and patient sufferer until Tuesday, Dec. 27, when death ended his suffering. He was united in marriage to Euretta A. Leavens, March 13, 1876.
    He leaves to mourn his demise: His wife, three children, all living in Dixon, Mrs. Mable A. Mill, Wayne L. and Dole M., one daughter having died in early life. Six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother, three nephews and three nieces also survive his passing.
    (Between his birth and death years on his tombstone was an iron cross symbol.)
