    Stokes County, North Carolina - Will Book 2, pp 51-52

    In the name of God Amen I Daniel Stockton of Stokes County and State of North Carolina being in health of body and mind thanks be given unto God calling into mind the mortality of My body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will & testament.

    As touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner of form
    - First that my well beloved wife Mary have one third of my moveable estate by her freely to be enjoyed during her said Widowhood & I also give to
    - my eldest son Joseph the sum of Ten Pounds &
    - my second son Clayton the sum of Ten pounds and
    - my third son John the Sum of Twenty pounds
    - my youngest son Doughty one hundred acres of land to be taken of from the South end of my Dwelling plantation so far as for it to take in what is called the old orchard & Spring &
    - Now I have Three Daughters living which I have given their portions unto but to keep them in remembrance of me I give to each of them Five Dollars a piece their names is
    - Mary Lundy and Content Wortman & Elizabeth Lundy also it is my will that
    - my Grand Daughter Mary Lundy should have a feather bed and one Cow and
    - it is also my Will that my plantation should be sold and moveable and all my Just Debts paid and after the wife has recd. her third the remaining two thirds to be divided equally amongst the Four sons forementioned Joseph Stockton, Clayton Stockton John Stockton & Doughty Stockton I also constitute and ordain Joseph Mendinghall & my wife Executor and Executrix of this my last will & testament and I do here by willingly disavow revoke & disannull all and every other former testaments, wills, legacy, bequests Executors by me in any way before named willed and bequeathed Ratyfying & confirming this and no other To be my last Will & testament I witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Sixteenth day of September in the Year of our lord one thousand eight hundred.

    Signed Sealed published & pronounced and declared by the said Daniel Stockton as his last will & Testament in the presence of us who in his presence & in the presence of each other has hereunto Subscribed our names.

    Stokes County June Term 1804
    The execution of the last will & Testament of Daniel Stockton Decd. of which the foregoing is a true Copy was proven in open Court by the oaths of Archibald Campbell Henry B Dobson & Mons Payton who swore that they believe the same to be the handwriting of said Deceased & was ordered to be recorded done accordingly Rob Williams & Tho T Armstrong.
