Daniel Kirk emigrated to South Australia in the 1850's. He operated a Draper's shop in Grote Street, Adelaide and his wife, Euphemia, supplemented their earnings by making shirts. Five children were born in Adelaide including Jane and Uncle Reggie. Daniel became ill and they retuned to Glasgow around Cape Horn in a sailing ship with a native nurse or ayah to mind the children. After five months atsea the children were like"wild indians". |
