Daniel Johnson, brother of Zebediah [p. 334: son of Daniel of Marlborough, and born in Marlborough], b. 1709, d. Shrewsbury 2 Jun 1763, m. 24 Mar 1736 Sarah Holland.

  4. There is a discrepancy between both the birth and baptism dates, and the age at death. Likewise, Daniel's brother Zebediah, if one relies on Ward, has similar problems. The original birth records are here, top of p. 24 and appear to have been accurately transcribed.

The Find A Grave memorial for Daniel shows the gravestone for the wrong person (E. Johnson), so is useless in telling us whether the gravestone was read correctly. (Unfortunately, the memorial for E. Johnson doesn't have a picture of Daniel's gravestone.) However, the Find A Grave memorial for Zebediah shows Zebediah's gravestone giving a death date of 7 Sep 1796 in the 87th year, which helps because it is not found in the Shrewsbury VRs, and Ward, p. 334, gives the wrong date "Sept. 6, 1793" which, without this correction gives a bad birth estimate for Zebediah, makeing a confusing situation even worse.

It is pretty clear that Zebediah's birth was in 1709, presumably born 28 April, baptized 5 June. Presumably the 1709 written in the line for Daniel belonged to Zebediah, and Daniel's year of birth was not recorded. The order of the records places Daniel's birth between Martha in 1702 and 1709. The baptism argues he was born 23 Aug 1705 while the age at death argues 23 Aug 1706. Typically, the baptism record would be regarded as more reliable.
