Facts and Events
Of the eight children (3 sons and 5 daughters) of Zacheriah and Martha, all born at Scituate, Daniel was the fourth. He was twice married, first to Bathsheba Sylvester, the mother of his first four children. Bathsheba died 24 December 1720 when their youngest child, Joseph was eight days old, and the other three were under the age of seven. On 27 July 1721 Daniel remarried Jemima Stetson, with whom he had six more children, or ten in all. Daniel died in 1733, at the age of 45. This left Jemima with a large family, the youngest of whom was only eight months old. The previous child had died in infancy and the oldest daughter had married the year before. So Jemima was left with eight children between eight months and seven years of age. Daniel spent his entire life at Scituate, and of his ten children, eight reached adulthood, married and raised large families. His first son, Daniel, Jr., was in 1780 a Representative and also a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, which wrote and ratified the State Constitution of Massachusetts. References
