In Scott, N. Y., June 30th, 1878, of complicated disease, Daniel Babcock, in the 77th year of his age. The deceased was the son of Ezra and Sabra Stillman Babcock. He was born in the town of Leyden, Mass., Jan. 23d, 1802. At the age of ten, he came with his parents to Scott, it being early in the history of the settlement of this part of Cortland county. At the age of sixteen years, he made a public profession of faith in Christ, and, at the organization of the Church at Scott, in the year 1820, was one of the thirteen constituent members, only one of whom, his brother, Abel Babcock, of Milton, Wis., is now living. With the exception of a residence of about eighteen months in DeRuyter, he has always been a member of this church, and it would be injustice not to say that he has always been one of the most active and devoted members, indeed, one of the pillars of the church. He leaves an invalid wife, who for years has been the object of tenderest care and devotion, and three sons, to mourn his departure. The sentiment of the community is, that a good man has fallen. An aged disciple has gone to his reward. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." Funeral services, July 2d. Text, Daniel 7: 14.
