excerpt from Cleveland Press March 14, 1917: .....and Cuyler H. Mowry, company soliciter, climbed out of an auto late Wednesday and started into the factory on E. 61st St. near Euclid Ave., tugging a payroll bag containing $5600. When the men reached the factory door a man stepped up and barred the way. Hands up, both of you - and drop the bag, he ordered. He swung a pair of revolvers at the heads of the two men. Mowry and Halper both reached toward their hips. .....the stranger pulled both triggers. Mowry dropped - and lay still. but as the stranger picked up the bag and fled, Mowry rose on his elbow and shot at the fleeing figure........Mowry was rushed to Mt. Sinai hospital. He died shortly after his arrival." |
