Cornelius Franciscus Meert lived on the family farm at Perrekouter, Moorsel. At the end of his life, he had prostate cancer and had to empty his bladder with a glass probe, injected by the doctor. Because of the war, insufficient probes were available and the doctors had to re-use their probes. During one of the probe injections, a probe broke. Cornelius dyed later of the infection from this wound.
