Peoria Journal Star, The (IL) - January 8, 2008 Deceased Name: Clifford Sorensen HAVANA - Clifford R. Sorensen, 86, of Havana passed away at 4:46 p.m.Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Cassion, Wis., to Soren and Ada (Thyburg) Sorensen. On July 30, 1944, he married Doris Cvercek in Riverside, Calif. Mr. Sorensen is survived by his wife, Doris of Havana; two daughters,Carol (Robert) LaFollette of Fairmont, W.Va., and Mary Ellen Simpson of Havana; three grandsons, Jean-Paul LaFollette, Robert Clifford LaFollette and Brian Sorensen; two granddaughters, Aimee LaFollette and Andrea Mineo; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor Mineo, Austin Curtis Sorensen, Emma Margaret Sorensen, Madeline LaFollette, Claudia Lafollette and Michael Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and sisters and one grandson, Curtis Simpson. Mr. Sorensen was a member of the Havana United Methodist Church, the Izaak Walton League, the American Foundryman Association, the Reserve Officers Association and the Havana Rotary Club, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Medal. He served in the Air Force from 1942 until 1978, retiring with the rank of colonel. After retirement, he received an offer from the Air Force to attend War College in Washington, D.C., to become a brigadier general. He attended college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and IITin Chicago, achieving a degree in metallurgy. When he moved to Havana, he designed and built the Atwood Foundry. Cremation rites have been accorded, and a private service will be ata later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Mason District Hospital.
