Clifford Holly Of Monona Killed In Action July 3

Word has been received from the defense department that Pvt. Clifford Holly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Holly of Monona, was killed in action in Korea July 3.

He was graduated from the Monona high school in 1950 and after being employed at the Monona hardware and Monona lumber company, he entered service June 3, 1952. He was landed in Japan on Christmas day, later being sent to Korea about Jan. 1. While stationed at Kwande, he drove a Jeep with a movie projector for the showing of pictures to the service men. Later he was transferred to the front lines.

He is survived by his parents, a brother Gerry, and a sister Bonnie.


Soldier's Body Being Returned To Monona

Monona, Ia. -- The body of Pfc. Clifford Holly, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Holly, will arrive in Monona at 2:30 a.m. Monday for services and burial.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist church. Burial will be in the Monona cemetery.

Pfc. Holly was drowned July 2, 1953, in Korea while on duty on a weasel putting up telephone lines. He entered service on June 2, 1952, and was sent to Korea Jan. 1, 1953. He was a member of Company B, 4th Signal Battalion. He was a 1949 graduate of Monona High School.

Surviving are his parents; a brother Gray, 15; and a sister Bonnie, 12. The Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Pfc. Clifford A. Holly, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Holly of Monona, were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. E.W. Hilmer, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.

Mr. Holly was a member of Co. B 45th Signal Battalion. He entered service June 2, 1952, and has been serving in Korea since January 1, 1953. He was drowned July 2, while installing telephone wires.

He was graduated from the Monona high school in 1949 and after being employed at the Monona Hardware store and by the Monona Lumber company, he entered service. While stationed at Kwande, he drove a jeep with a movie projector for the showing of pictures to service men. Later he was transferred to communications.

The local American Legion unit attended the services in a body acting as a guard of honor.

Surviving are his parents, a brother Gary, and a sister Bonnie.
