Facts and Events
Research contributed by Dr. Anthony Troha: The New York World, Friday, February 16, 1872, Page 8, Column 6: “MARRIED. PETERS-DIXON - On Tuesday, February 13, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Brooklyn, by the Rev. Charles H. Hall, Hamilton H. J. Peters to Clementine, youngest daughter of the late Henry Dixon, all of this city.” This gives us her father’s name, but not that of her mother. [edit] ==Looking around for source to determine her marital status and confirm that this is the same Clementine Peters who was married to Hamilton H. J. Peters, I found a real estate transfer in a volume scanned by Google Books that confirmed her identity and her second husband’s name [or at least, a variation of it]: Real Estate Record and Builders’ Guide, Volume LVI, Number 1,425, July 6, 1895, “Record and Guide” section, Page 15, Column 3: “MORTGAGES — ASSIGNMENTS NEW YORK CITY June 28, 29, July 1, 2, 3. Burr, Clementine formerly widow of Hamilton H J Peters to Melancthan Burr, Jr. nom” [edit] ==The reference to Hamilton H. J. Peters verifies that this is not a namesake, but her second husband’s given name is different here than in the Italian Genealogical Group’s wedding database. Armed with this new information, a search for Clementine Burr yielded the following death notices [take note of the address, 255 Henry Street in Brooklyn, which will be seen in other newspaper articles]: The New York Herald, Monday, June 10, 1895, Page 1, Column 2: “BURR.—At Bensonhurst, on Sunday, June 9, CLEMENTINE, wife of Melanchtham Burr, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, 11th Inst., at three o'clock, 255 Henry st., Brooklyn. Interment private.”
