Memorial: Clarence was the son of Joseph and Harriet (Mansfield) Relf. Prior to his enlistment in the Royal Garrison Artillery on 17 November 1914, he was a lifelong resident of Ticehurst, living with his family and working as a laborer. He entered combat service in France on 17 July 1915. When he was killed in action in France, he was serving as a gunner with the 208th Siege battery. The Siege Batteries fired the heaviest artillery in the British arsenal. Service No: 54859 Regiment/Service: Royal Garrison Artillery, 208th Siege Battery. He was awarded the Vistory medcal and the Star Medal.
