Origins

Cyrus Comstock Ballou and John Adams Comstock argue that he was son of William, although that relationship has not been proven. John Insley Coddington reviews "raw" data concerning British Comstock records -- none that directly tie to the New England Comstocks. He concludes that review of parish records in the vicinity of West Sedgmoore, in mid-Somersetshire in or about the parishes of Curry Rivel, Stoke St. Gregory, and Fivehead is most likely to reveal the origins of the emigrating William Comstock and reveal whether or not Christopher Comstock of Fairfield and Norwalk was William's son.

Life in New England

(unless otherwise noted, drawn from A Comstock Genealogy)

On 29 May 1654 made affidavit about visiting good wife Knapp charged with withchraft. She was executed.

On Jan 27 1661, Christopher, then of Fairfield, Connecticut, bought land of Thomas Betts.

On 19 Sep 1692 he was member of a grand jury for witches.

Hinman claims that Christopher brought with him from England a silver tankard with his coat of arms upon it. His great-grandson Major Samuel Comstock gave it to the church at Wilton, CT which melted it.

Legacy

His will -- dated 22 December 1701, proved 4 Jan 1702/3 -- gives to wife Hannah; sons Moses (who is then under 21), Samuel; daughters Hannah, Mercy; grandson Daniel.

"Christopher Comstock of Fairfield (and later of Norwalk, Ct.) … named three of his children Elizabeth, Daniel, and Samuel, these being the names of the wife and two sons of William1 Comstock of New London. William1 and Christopher2 were both in Connecticut in 1654. These facts suggest that Christopher2 was a son of William1."
