Person talk:Christopher Comstock (1)

Birthdate? [22 February 2009]

Where did birthdate of 6 Oct 1663 come from? If that's true, it looks unlikely that Christopher belongs to William Comstock and Elizabeth Daniel, who would have been pushing 60 at the time of this birth, and with a 30 year gap from all of his other siblings. In the text, there is a reference to an alternate birthyear of 1635. That would make a lot more sense if he did indeed belong to this family. The text also notes him buying land in 1661. Obviously that would have been problematic if he wasn't born until 1663. :-) --TomChatt 13:40, 21 February 2009 (EST)

It looks like it resulted from a merge. Let me look more deeply at the history. Either a badly entered date on one of the merged files, or an inappropriate merge. I'll be right back. -- jillaine 17:33, 21 February 2009 (EST)

The 6 Oct 1663 date appears to be his MARRIAGE date (to Hannah Platt) according to the 1907 A history and genealogy of the Comstock family in America, p. 4. That marriage date is also documented in Norwalk Vital Records (Barbour Collection), p. 3. I'll clean this up.
Not sure how that got changed to his birth date. He named none of this children Christopher. The above referenced genealogy as well as another (A Comstock Genealogy... also 1907) argue through circumstantial evidence that Christopher was the son of William.

Hi Jillaine, wow, you're fast! I thought I might use William Comstock and Elizabeth Daniels as my first foray into trying out the merge function, but you beat me to it. The merge looks like it turned out right as far as I can tell. I just glanced at my records, and my secondary source does include Christopher as a son of Wm and Eliz, though it doesn't give any more info on him. Christopher being born in 1635 would fit reasonably with the other facts about that family. --TomChatt 04:59, 22 February 2009 (EST)

Tom,

Feel free to take on the rest of the Comstocks. I only did the family of William Comstock (which merged many dupe children at the same time). But there are probably other dupes both up and down the line. Start with merging families which will merge children in the same process. While you need to be careful, you'll see that it's not that difficult to do. Feel free to ask for help. -- jillaine 08:24, 22 February 2009 (EST)
