The Pershing book states that nothing is known about Christian's childhood, or of his life prior to 1768. He was known as a man of great physical strength. The activities of his early manhood are unrecorded. He served with several companies of Rangers when Indian raids were frequent. Apparently he was not a member of any military units during the Revolutionary War.
