Mrs. Erin L. Daly, Daly57531@@aol.com E-Mail 17 Jul 1998: (The following taken from my HORNER FAMILY genealogy, compiled by Harriet Zierer Horner in 1979, and which I am currently in the process of updating:) "The wedding was performed by the Rev. Mr. Stoy (the founder of Stoystown, PA.) In the same year, Christian Horner moved from Somerset to Cambria County and settled near Jonstown one year before Joseph Johns would lay out the town which bears his name. Christian Horner moved to a farm in Richland Twp., lived there until 1847, and then returned to Somerset Cty. "Squire" Horner was a prominent man in the community in his time. In 1809, Governor Snyser commissioned Christian Horner Justice of the Peace, an office then of much dignity, carrying the title of 'Squire,' while the officer himself was generally regarded as the 'first man in the township.' ...Squire Horner was married twice. Catherine Shively Horner died in 1828. She was forty-five years of age. A son, Jacob C. Horner was born in 1826. It seems likely that he was Catherine's last child." (Catherine and Christian Horner had 13 children all together.) "Christian Horner died on 6 OCT 1865. He may have been buried in Sandyvale Cemetery in Johnstown, PA. I have not been able to verify this." 7. CHRISTIAN3 HORNER (JOHN "CAMBRIA JOHN"2, JOHANNES1 HANAUER) was born January 25, 1778 in Franklin Co PA, and died October 06, 1865 in Jenner Twp, Somerset Co PA. He married (1) CATHERINE SHIVELY, daughter of ISAAC SHIVELY and ELIZABETH BASSLER. She was born June 15, 1783, and died 1828 in Richland Twp, Cambria Co PA. He married (2) EVE SHAFFER 1828 in Pennsylvania. Notes for CHRISTIAN HORNER: Like others of his surname in the earlier generations of the family, Squire Horner was a prominent man in his community in his time. In 1809 Governor Snyder commissioned him Justice of the Peace, an office then of much dignity, carrying the title of "Squire", while the officer himself was generally regarded as the first man in the township. As justice of the peace he had jurisdiction over the large territory of Conemaugh township, which then included the present township of that name, the townships of Croyle, Summerhill, Jackson, Taylor, Yoder and Richland and trhe towns of Johnstown and Wilmore. This office he held until 1847, when he removed to Somerset county. (Research):Source of birth and death dates is: Bell Patriots of PA, by Jack Horner Bell, 1980.
