Chester Eugene Yockey, of Troy Michigan, died peacefully Sunday evening September 18, 2011 at Beaumont Hospice after a brave struggle with major health issues. He was 79 years old. Chet will ling be remembered for his quite strength, sense of humor and exemplary love of his family, especially his beloved wife of 55 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Chet was born on November 22, 1931 in Detroit to Ivadell (nee Fraser) and Chester E. Yockey, Sr. He grew up in Detroit and Madison Heights with his younger sister Joan (Barefoot). As part of a large closely-knit family, Chet spent lots of happy times with his many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Chet married the love of his life, Nancy (nee Hohl) on June 9, 1956. They had three children: Philip (Shawn) Yockey, Marsha (Rick) Rinke, and Jeanne (Doug) Holmes. Chet has five grandchildren of whom he is incredibly pround: Karl Rinke, Philip Rinke, Allison Holmes, Jack Yockey, and Rachel Holmes. His life was centered around his family.

Chet was always supportive of his children's and grandchildren's education and extra-curricular activities. He especially loved sports and attended every baseball, softball, football, and basketball game (home and away) played by Phil and Jeanne. He loved going to his grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed music and encouraged his children to develop their musical gifts, faithfully attending every concern of his children during their growing-up years as well as the many recitals and concerts of his grandchildren. He was a Wolverine fan since all three of his children graduated from the University of Michigan, where his granddaughter currently attends.

Chet graduated from trade school and was a journeyman rough carpenter for over forty years. Throughout his long and physically strenuous career, Chet helped to build many homes and worked on commercial buildings throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. He built two major additions onto the home in Troy that he and his wife Nancy have lived in throughout their entire married life. He willingly shared his professional skills, often helping his mother, sister and daughters with many home improvement projects.

Chet enjoyed many sports activities. He was an avid bowler, golfer and pool player and played cribbage every Friday at the Troy Senior Center. He loved to watch Michigan football, the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings games on television.

Chet and Nancy were members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Clawson for nearly fifty years until it closed its doors in January 2011. They have been members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clawson since that time.

A memorial gathering will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Thursday 4-8pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 749 W. 14 Mile Rd., Clawson, Friday 11am.

In Lieu of flowers memorials appreciated to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 749 W. 14 Mile Rd., Clawson, Michigan 48017 or Gleaners Community Food Bank, P.O. Box 1380, Troy, Michigan 48099.
