About 1882 he moved west to Globe, Arizona, to mine silver.

Bought a farm in Buckeye, AZ about 1896. About 1899 he started the Copper Hill Mining Company with Mr. Hunt and Mr. Windmiller. Sold mine and moved to California about 1904. Bought a farm in Riverside, CA about 1905.

Chauncy's son, Louis, wrote an account of his father's trip west. He took a train to Tucson, AZ in about 1882.
