From the journal of Edmund Lovell Ellsworth: "Charlotte, was born March 1817. Was married to William Cogswell, a furnace man, in 1839, by whom she gave birth to two sons and one daughter. They were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the spring of 1841 and moved to Nauvoo in the fall of 1847. On account of not procuring work in Nauvoo, Cogswell left his wife and children and went to St. Louis where he found work for a while. He then went to Ottaway, Alabama. Went in partners with a man and built a foundry and the next season he sent for my sister and they have lived there ever since."
