Charlie was Buried on Veteran's Day, 1979 in Ida, Caddo, Louisiana. Mack Taylor assisted in the funeral service at the request of William J Davis (Uncle Bill). At this service Billy Gill, first cousin to William, Amos, and Otis, was publicly acknowledged as the son of Charlie Ervin Davis.

Billy's mom, Linnie Gill, had attended to her twin sister, Minnie, as she was bed ridden due to dropsy. This secret encounter had been kept quiet. Papa (as Charlie was familiarly known in the family) was dying in the hospital in Shreveport when he privately revealed this to Billy. Papa had promised Linnie to keep the secret.

Papa moved away from the area soon after his wife's death and left his 3 legitimate sons to be raised by Minnie's sister, Mary, and brother, Bo ( William Virgil). Billy was raised by Linnie and her loving husband as his own child. Billy and his cousins always suspected something as they grew up. All three men looked like brothers.

Billy and Bill (William J) attested that Papa's in his last days and after Linnie's death wanted Billy to know who his father was. This made for a surprise to the community and a heart felt union expressed between the brothers. You should have seen the faces at the funeral and heard the whispers as I did. This is my brief interpretation. Signed, Mack Taylor
