General Affidavit dated January 9, 1895 sworn by John Paul Huff and Edward Stanton Myers as personal references for Charles Wesley Wiley in regards to his Declaration for Civil War Pension. Their testimony is as follows:
...they are well-acquainted with with the claimant, Charles W. Wiley have known him for 35 years and 25 years respectively, and that he suffers from rheumatism, heart disease, and dizziness in the head amd that he has frequently complained to these deponents. that he was suffering from said disabilities for the last five years and that his disabilities do not result from any vicious habits of his and that he is incapacitated for performing manual labor fully half his time and said disabilities are not the result of any vicious habits of his, that these facts are known to them from the fact that they are near neighbors of his and see him every few days, and that this testamony was all written in our presence and only from our oral Statements then made on this ninth day of January 1895 at Paulsboro Gloucester County NJ.......

Personally appeared before me as a Justice of the Peace within and for the county of Gloucester, Charles W. Wiley, who being duly sworn on his oath says that he was born on the 25th day of October 1837, in Burlington County, NJ that his mother died when he was a small child, and that his father put him out with a farmer near Mt. Ephraim, NJ he stayed with him 3 or 4 years and then came to Greenwich Township, and has lived in Greenwich Township ever since, his father came to see him once or twice while he was at Mt Ephraim and he has not seen him or heard from him or anyone of his family from that time to this.
I do not know where any of my relatives are, whether living or dead, I do not know anyone who knew me when a child, nor can I find any record of my birth, neither do I know where I got the date of my birth from, I have always called the date of my birth as above stated; to the best of my knowledge and belief I am now 68 years of age, and will be 69 the 25th of October next.
