Charles Edward Viner was one of the finest English makers of the 19th century. He was born in 1788 and apprenticed to Thomas Savage in Clerkenwell on 22nd September 1802 and Free of the Clockmakers' Company on 3rd May 1813 he worked first at Sweetings Alley, Cornhill and then established a business at 233 Regent Street, London between 1826 and 1835 and then was at 235 Regent Street between 1836 and 1855 he had other premises in Old Bond Street between 1844 and 1857, Sackville Street 1856-67 and New Bond Street 1868-9 he formed a partnership with Hoskins in 1824 and traded at various times as Viner & Hoskins and Viner & Co. He died in June 1875
