"Found Dead. Sudden Death of Charles S. Taylor.

Charles S. Taylor, a young fraternal organizer who came to this coast last fall, was found dead in his room at the Winsor Hotel Monday. The supposition is that he died from an overdose of morphine.
Several weeks ago Taylor was taken sick and friends sent him to a local hospital, where he speedily improved. He had been taking drugs for the relief from pain he had suffered previous to his admission to the hospital. He left the hospital Saturday and calling on a friend, told him that he had received word that money had been sent to him from his home; also that he had been offered a position. This friend saw nothing more of Taylor until he was advised to-day that the young man was dead. A boy who shared his room last night stated that Taylor had taken a large dose from a bottle before retiring and the supposition is that fearing a return of the old pain he had fortified himself with the drug.
The friends of the young man scout the idea of suicide, as they say that while Taylor had been in hard luck he had everything to live for and that the future seemed bright for him. His parents live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where his wife and child also reside.
Deceased was a member of several fraternal orders, among them being the Woodmen of the World, Knight of the Maccabees, Knights of Kadosh and the Order of Pendo."

"Morphine Was The Cause Of His Downfall

C. S. Taylor, at one time a well-known outside man for a big printing house at Des Moines, Iowa, was found dead in his room at the Windsor House, Washington Street, this morning.
Deceased came to Oakland last November in quest of health, he being afflicted with cancer. He had acquired the morphine habit and had lately been under treatment for both troubles, and was doing nicely. Last night he returned to morphine to seek comfort, and it is believed that he took an overdose accidentally.
The body was removed to the morgue and an inquest will be held.
Taylor was an Iowan and has a wife and child living in Cedar Rapids. He was prominently connected with the Woodmen of the World, and was to have gone to Benicia next week as organizer."
