Civil War Veteran: enlisted in the U.S. Army as a member of the 3rd Ill Cav at the age of 20 years. Was taken prisoner and held at Libby Prison: later exchanged and discharged. he learned to read the English Language from reading the Greenville Advocate. Married Margaret Rienhardt on 4-10-1866 In Shoal Creek Township.
