  2.   Source:Locke, John Goodwin. Book of the Lockes : A Genealogical and Historical Record of the Descendants of William Locke, of Woburn ; with an Appendix, p. 213 says Lydia Barret m. Charles Richardson, s/o Herman and Mary Richardson of Brookfield, b. 14 Aug 1789, who "is" (this book published 1853) a carriage maker at New Alstead, N.H. Now, Locke certainly had the capability to be corresponding with the principals involved, but Brookfield VRs show no such birth, nor any births to a Herman (Heman might be more common in this time frame, or Harman (Harmon?) as the census says, or Hammmond as Charles' death record says, the latter two possibly surnames used as a given name). Further, the Richardson Memorial appears to have nothing on either the father or son. A "Harman Richardson" is listed in the 1790 census of Brookfield with 2 males 16 and over, 6 males under 16, and 3 females; and in 1800 in Brookfield First Parish with 1 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 16-25, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-15, 1 female over 45. Incidentally, a portrait of Charles, Lydia, and their son Alonzo by artist Abijah Canfield apparently sold in 1994 for $18,000.
