Bishop Olmsted was born in Minerva, Essex County, N. Y., where his parents then resided. He graduated at St. Stephen's College, Annandale, N. Y.; studied theology at the General Theological Seminary at New York; entered the ministry of the Protestant Episcopal Church in 1876, and settled at Morley, St. Lawrence County, N. Y.

OLMSTED, Charles Sanford, second bishop of Colorado and 207th in succession in the American episcopate, was born in Olmstedville, New York, February 08, 1853; son of Levi and Maria "Beach" Olmsted; grandson of Zahnon and Rebecca "Barlow" Olmsted; great-grandson of Lemuel and Silence "Weed" Olmsted, and a descendant of Richard Olmsted, first of Hartford, and afterward of Norwalk, Connecticut. He was educated at St. Stephen's College, 1869-73; was graduated from the General Theological Seminary, 1876; was admitted to the diaconate by Bishop Horatio Potter in 1876, and advanced to the priesthood by Bishop Doane in 1877. He was rector of Trinity Church, Morley, New York; of Christ Church, Cooperstown, New York; archdeacon of Susquehanna in the diocese of Albany for ten years, and rector of St. Asaph's, Bala, Pennsylvania, 1896-1902. He was deputy from the diocese of Pennsylvania to the General convention of 1901. He received the degree of D.D. from Hobart in 1895, and from the General Theological Seminary in 1901. He was elected bishop co-adjutor of Colorado, January 08, 1902, and on the death of Bishop Spalding, March 9, 1902, he became the diocesan designate and was consecrated at St. John's Cathedral, Denver, Colorado, May 01, 1902, by Bishop Tuttle of Missouri, assisted by Bishops Johnston, Leonard, Coleman, Graves, White, Brown, Williams and Taylor. He is the author of: December Musings and other Poems; The Discipline of Perfection; Ordination Sermon - 1902
