Facts and Events
[edit] Quick Notes Dumped HereCharles was a sergeant in the 13th Regiment Company E in the Civil War, where his younger brother Guy also served (and was killed). (See Brooklyn Daily Eagle 8 July 1862, describing a baseball game the regiment played, in which Charles was umpire; and also 18 Aug 1862 resolution of the company after Guy was killed mentions brother Charles in the company.) He, like his father and brothers, seemed quite involved in baseball. A "sports and pastimes" article in the Eagle (12 Mar 1864) lists him as "secretary" of the Excelsior Baseball Club, along with his younger brother William as assistant secretary. (Note that it will take some sorting out of all the mentions in the Daily Eagle to distinguish this Charles from his father, also Charles, though it helps that the father was often referred to as "Father Holt".)
